Staying at home may seem like bliss especially during this Corona Virus pandemic. People have more time in their hands and often use it to do the things they’ve put off because of their busy schedules. But being inside the house has its fair share of harmful effects like lack of exercise, change in diet, and stress.

The sudden change in environment and routine also has a big effect on our skin. It is important, especially now, to take care of our skin and keep it clean and healthy. Here are some good skincare practices to help you avoid facial breakout and dryness of the skin in the weeks to come.

Reduce stress. Take care of your mental health. The way you feel inside has a big impact on your physical appearance. Keep your communication line open and talk to your family and friends as often as you can. It will help reduce anxiety and the feeling of loneliness.

Eat healthy. Take this chance to cook healthy for you and your family. Use this time to plan a healthy meal with ingredients like vegetables, fish, fruits, etc.

Stay hydrated. Drinking eight glasses of water a day is a known fact. Now that you are confined in the comforts of your home, there is no more excuse for why you cannot complete this daily.

Stay active. Not having to go to your favorite gym should not stop you from working out and giving your body its daily boost. Utilize the tools you have at home and come up with a creative way of exercising. Keeping yourself active keeps the blood flowing properly and delivers oxygen to your face.

Get enough sleep. Now that you’re spending more time at home, your sleep routine might slightly change. Whatever it may be, be sure to get enough beauty rest and allow your skin to recover.

Avoid touching your face. Touching your face does not only contribute to spreading the COVID-19 virus but it can also spread dirt, oil, and bacteria that cause the pores to clog. If you really must touch it, make sure to thoroughly wash your hands for 20 seconds, enough time to sing two happy birthdays.

Moisturize. Continue using the right moisturizer for your skin to prevent it from drying and experience micro-tears.

Below are some honorable mentions you might also want to avoid:

  • Avoid drinking alcohol.
  • Use disposable tools like cotton swabs and cotton pads to remove debris on your face; gently and hygienically.
  • Ease up on exfoliation; and
  • Keep your hands off your face during and after using cleaning products.
